JioHotstar has announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT-powered voice and text capabilities into its streaming platform, redefining how audiences discover and engage with content.
The collaboration introduces a multilingual, conversational interface built using OpenAI APIs, enabling users to explore India’s largest streaming library through natural language. Moving beyond traditional browsing and keyword search, viewers can now express their mood, intent, or context in everyday language and receive intelligent, context-aware recommendations instantly.
Designed to address the common “what to watch” challenge, the new feature replaces scroll-based discovery with Multilingual Cognitive Search. Users can speak prompts such as family-viewing preferences or genre-specific interests and receive tailored suggestions across languages and formats. The assistant also enhances live sports experiences by enabling conversational access to match highlights, scores, player statistics, and key moments.
Uday Shankar, Vice Chairman of JioStar, said AI represents a transformative shift across the media value chain, from production to monetisation. He noted that embedding AI at the core of the user experience allows viewers to discover and curate content seamlessly using voice, creating a deeply personal entertainment journey.
Fidji Simo, CEO, Applications at OpenAI, highlighted that AI converts entertainment from a passive experience into an interactive one, enabling users to move naturally from watching to exploring and contextual understanding.
The rollout will begin with select live and on-demand experiences and expand in phases. Beyond the app, JioHotstar content will also integrate into ChatGPT experiences, offering contextual recommendations and direct streaming links.
By embedding advanced AI models at scale, JioHotstar aims to set a new benchmark in intelligent, inclusive, and personalized streaming for Indian audiences.
