Scheme enables subscribers to build a healthcare corpus while continuing long-term retirement savings

Axis Pension Fund Management has announced the availability of the Axis NPS Swasthya Scheme, a health-linked pension solution designed to help NPS subscribers create a dedicated corpus for medical expenses while continuing to build retirement savings.

The offering follows the formal launch of NPS Swasthya by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on NPS Diwas 2026. Axis Pension Fund had earlier participated in the proof-of-concept phase of the initiative.

Under the scheme, NPS subscribers can allocate up to 25% of their contributions towards a market-linked medical emergency fund. The fund can be used for hospitalisation, consultations, medicines, diagnostics and outpatient care, including certain expenses and co-payments not covered by standard health insurance.

Available in partnership with Medi Assist, the scheme provides access to more than 18,000 hospitals across over 1,000 cities, including cashless medical payments. It also covers day-care procedures, 30 days of pre-hospitalisation and 60 days of post-hospitalisation expenses.

Sumit Shukla, MD & CEO, Axis Pension Fund, said: “India is witnessing a steady rise in awareness around healthcare and financial planning. As awareness and long-term financial planning continue to grow, customers are increasingly looking for solutions that deliver flexibility alongside protection. NPS Swasthya marks an important step towards integrating healthcare preparedness with retirement planning by enabling subscribers to build a dedicated healthcare corpus while continuing to pursue their long-term retirement goals. Axis Pension Fund welcomes PFRDA’s initiative to bring healthcare protection and retirement savings together within the NPS framework. We believe this can play an important role in strengthening long-term financial resilience for subscribers.”

The scheme also supports expenses such as consumables, administrative charges, dental care, medicines and diagnostic tests. Unutilised funds remain invested, offering potential market-linked growth over time.
