Jio is expanding access to computing for students and educational institutions with JioPC, a subscription-based service that enables users to access cloud computing capabilities without investing in a new computer.
JioPC allows users to access a computing environment through an existing laptop or desktop, a monitor connected via a Jio Set-top box, or a web browser. The service is available to both Jio and non-Jio users with an active subscription and an internet connection.
For students, JioPC supports a range of activities, including online classes, educational applications, coding, design, research and generative AI. Schools, colleges and skilling centres can also use the service to upgrade existing computer labs without replacing their entire hardware infrastructure.
The service offers configurable computing plans, allowing users to choose capabilities based on their requirements. Subscription options include JioPC with 8GB RAM and 500GB storage, and JioPC Ultra with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
Plans are available for two months at ₹1,000 and ₹1,200, five months at ₹2,000 and ₹2,500, and 10+2 months at ₹4,000 and ₹5,000, respectively. Eligible JioHome customers can also redeem a ₹100 monthly voucher against their broadband bill.
JioPC features an Ubuntu-based interface, LibreOffice and web browsers for accessing online applications, including Microsoft 365. It also supports tools such as Adobe Express. User data is stored in cloud storage with disaster recovery, while a Zero Trust security model helps protect access and data.
By combining cloud computing, flexible subscriptions and access across devices, JioPC offers students and institutions an alternative to conventional computer upgrades.
