IN-SPACe Launches 2026 Student Rocketry & CANSAT Challenge to Build Future Space Talent

Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre has opened applications for the 2026 editions of its Model Rocketry and CAN-7USAT student competitions, inviting undergraduate teams from engineering and science streams across India. The deadline for applications is 30 April 2026, with national finals slated for October–November in Kushinagar.

The Model Rocketry challenge requires teams to design, build, and launch a rocket capable of carrying a 1 kg CAN-sized satellite to 1000 metres, followed by safe deployment and precise landing. The CAN-7USAT competition focuses on developing a 1 kg satellite that must achieve controlled descent and accurate landing after release.

These competitions aim to provide hands-on exposure to real-world space mission design, encouraging innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving among students. Participants will gain practical experience in engineering processes while strengthening skills in teamwork and project management.

Dr. Vinod Kumar, Director, Promotion Directorate, IN-SPACe, said, “These competitions simulate real mission challenges, enabling students to build technical expertise while understanding the importance of collaboration and execution. We aim to inspire the next generation to actively contribute to India’s evolving space ecosystem.”
