Bondada Engineering Limited has secured an order from NTPC Renewable Energy Limited to develop a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) Energy Storage System at the Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat. The project, to be executed with Delectrik Systems Pvt. Ltd. as the technology partner, includes a 10-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract and marks India’s first and largest grid-scale VRFB battery energy storage project.

The order marks Bondada Engineering’s entry into next-generation Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) technologies, strengthening its presence in India’s fast-growing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sector.

The project is designed to support the integration of renewable energy into the national grid using Vanadium Redox Flow Battery technology. Compared with conventional Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries, VRFB technology offers long-duration energy storage and supports India’s efforts to strengthen energy security by reducing long-term dependence on imported battery cells through the use of domestic vanadium resources and diversified imports.

India has set a target of deploying approximately 236 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems by 2030, compared with the current installed capacity of around 3.3 GWh. As renewable energy capacity continues to grow, long-duration storage technologies are expected to play an important role in improving grid reliability and supporting the country’s clean energy transition.

Commenting on the development, Rear Admiral R. Sreenivas, VSM (Retd), Group Chief Executive Officer, Bondada Engineering Limited, said, “This award from NTPC Renewable Energy is a defining milestone in Bondada Engineering’s growth journey. Securing India’s first and largest grid-scale Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage project demonstrates our ability to execute advanced clean energy infrastructure and reinforces our commitment to supporting India’s energy transition. As the country accelerates renewable energy adoption, long-duration energy storage technologies will become increasingly critical in ensuring reliable and resilient power systems. We are proud to partner with NTPC Renewable Energy in delivering this landmark project that will contribute to building the energy infrastructure of the future.”
