Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), a partnership between Raytheon, an RTX business, and Lockheed Martin, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore co-production of the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) in India.
Under the agreement, TASL has been selected as JJV’s prime partner for future in-country co-production. The companies will explore establishing a facility in India for final assembly and integration of the Javelin AUR, along with component manufacturing capabilities.
The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s defence industrial base by creating high-technology jobs, developing local manufacturing expertise and enhancing supply-chain resilience. Sub-assembly kits produced at Lockheed Martin’s Troy, Alabama, facility and guidance electronics units manufactured at Raytheon’s Tucson, Arizona, facility would be shipped to India for final assembly and integration.
The collaboration is also expected to support defence readiness and contribute to broader security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
Rich Liccion, Vice President, JJV and Program Director, Lockheed Martin Javelin, said: “Partnering with Tata Advanced Systems Limited to establish a dedicated Javelin final assembly and integration facility in India is a pivotal step in ensuring a resilient, supply chain for this critical anti-tank weapon system. This collaboration not only expands India’s high-tech manufacturing capabilities but also reinforces a stronger, more stable security architecture across the Indo-Pacific region, enabling our partners around the world to respond swiftly to emerging threats.”
Jenna Hunt Frazier, JJV President and Javelin Program Director at Raytheon, said: “This agreement with Tata Advanced Systems Limited establishes a foundation to strengthen the global supply chain for Javelin. It supports faster fielding of the proven Javelin weapon system and sustained readiness for partner nations.”
Sukaran Singh, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Tata Advanced Systems Limited, said: “We are pleased to partner with the Javelin Joint Venture on this important next step in our long-standing relationship with Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. This initiative brings critical assembly expertise and knowledge transfer into India’s defence industrial ecosystem, while strengthening self-reliance. Local assembly of the Javelin All Up Round will enhance operational readiness and ensure timely access to proven, combat-ready capability for the Indian Armed Forces.”
The Javelin system is developed and produced by the JJV, comprising Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. The venture has produced more than 55,000 Javelin missiles and over 12,000 reusable Command Launch Units to date.
