Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the new S 450 e, marking the debut of plug-in hybrid technology in the flagship S-Class range in India. The launch expands the brand’s powertrain portfolio, giving customers the choice of internal combustion, electric and plug-in hybrid models in the top-end luxury segment.

The S 450 e combines a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a total system output of 435 hp and 680 Nm of torque. The luxury sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and offers a pure electric driving range of around 115 km (WLTP), enabling most daily city commutes to be completed without using the combustion engine.

Commenting on the launch, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “The S-Class embodies Mercedes-Benz’s extraordinary legacy of timeless luxury and continues to set the benchmark for automotive excellence. With more than 2,700 new and updated components, the new S-Class enhances comfort, safety, digital experience and refinement, making it the most advanced S-Class ever introduced in India.”

He added, “There is growing demand for plug-in hybrid technology among our top-end customers. The S 450 e offers the best of both worlds, combining electric mobility for everyday driving with the convenience and flexibility of a combustion engine for longer journeys.”

Beyond the new powertrain, the S-Class receives one of the most comprehensive updates in its history. The model features redesigned DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with micro-LED technology, an illuminated grille, the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), MBUX Superscreen and AI-enabled “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant.

Safety remains a key highlight, with the S 450 e becoming the first S-Class in India to offer 15 airbags. Standard features also include AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering.

Bookings for the S 450 e have commenced, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The S 450 e Launch Edition is priced at Rs. 2.20 crore, while the MANUFAKTUR Edition starts at Rs. 2.38 crore (ex-showroom, India).
