Mercedes-Benz has announced the India leg of its global ‘140 Years. 140 Places.’ expedition, marking 140 years since Carl Benz patented the world’s first automobile. The transcontinental drive, featuring three Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury sedans, celebrates the brand’s pioneering legacy while showcasing the cultures, landscapes and communities that have shaped its journey across the world.

Having travelled over 60,000 kilometres through more than 55 countries across six continents, the three S-Class vehicles—named Gottlieb, Carl and Bertha—will now embark on a cross-country journey through India. The expedition will explore destinations that reflect the country’s cultural heritage, architectural richness, technological progress and geographical diversity.

Commenting on the initiative, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said India represents a unique blend of tradition and innovation, making it an ideal chapter in the global celebration. He added that the S-Class, the brand’s flagship luxury limousine, perfectly reflects the spirit of progress that has defined both Mercedes-Benz and modern India.

The journey will take the S-Class through iconic locations including Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Ladakh, Lucknow, Varanasi, Patna, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hampi, Goa and Coorg. One route will also include Bhutan before returning to India. Along the way, the expedition will capture stories of craftsmanship, innovation, heritage and local communities that define each destination.

The India chapter forms part of Mercedes-Benz’s global anniversary celebrations, highlighting the company’s enduring commitment to engineering excellence, luxury and innovation. The S-Class continues to represent the pinnacle of that legacy, combining advanced technology, comfort and craftsmanship while carrying the brand’s vision for the future of mobility.
