UPI ‘Tap & Pay’ enables faster POS payments, while MyUPI brings AI-powered support, safety and control to users
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shri Sanjay Malhotra today announced two new UPI capabilities at Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 — UPI ‘Tap & Pay’ on Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals and MyUPI, an AI-powered customer support platform built on NPCI’s Small Language Model, FiMI.
The launch took place in the presence of Shri Ajay Kumar Choudhary, Non-Executive Chairman and Independent Director, NPCI, along with senior bankers, fintech founders and other industry participants.
UPI ‘Tap & Pay’ allows users to make payments by unlocking an NFC-enabled smartphone and tapping it on an NFC-enabled POS terminal. The feature does not require mobile internet connectivity, as transactions use the POS terminal’s internet connection. It supports multiple UPI account types, including RuPay Credit Card on UPI. PIN-less transactions are supported up to ₹5,000, beyond which the UPI PIN is required.
Building on UPI Biometric Authentication launched at GFF 2025, the combined volume of biometric-authenticated UPI transactions crossed 6.29 billion as of August 31, 2026.
MyUPI (UPI Help 2.0) uses FiMI to provide users with a single view of UPI transactions and AutoPay mandates across banks and UPI apps. Its features include Safety Switch, UPI Number Delink, payee information, automated chargeback processing and Transaction Replay.
MyUPI is designed as a proactive trust and control layer, offering 24×7 multilingual support and self-service capabilities to improve transparency, safety and convenience across the UPI ecosystem.
