Company targets up to five times higher network capacity and 10 times lower latency than 5G
Reliance Jio is preparing for the next generation of connectivity, with ambitions to make India among the first countries to roll out 6G once global standards are finalised in 2030.
At the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, Jio is showcasing its pre-6G technology stack and Giga MIMO Radio, which it describes as India’s first. The company has also unveiled a common baseband unit designed to support both 5G and 6G networks.
According to Jio, 6G could deliver up to five times the network capacity of 5G while targeting nearly 10 times lower latency. These improvements could support emerging applications such as real-time artificial intelligence, holographic video, healthcare and education.
Jio said it has filed more than 8,000 patents, including hundreds related to 6G, and made over 934 contributions to global standards. The company aims to strengthen its position across hardware, software, patents and standards as the technology evolves.
The company is also working towards AI-native and quantum-safe networks, with potential applications for farmers, doctors and students. These developments aim to make AI-powered services more responsive while strengthening network security.
Jio’s 6G vision is captured in two themes: ‘India’s 6G in the Making’ and ‘From India to the World’, reflecting its ambition to develop technologies that can contribute to global connectivity.
The company believes these efforts could help position India as an early adopter of 6G and a contributor to the technologies and standards shaping its future.
