Users can delegate UPI payment rights for transactions up to ₹15,000 per month with complete control and real-time monitoring

NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), a subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India, has launched UPI Circle Full Delegation on the BHIM Payments App. The functionality enables users to assign payment rights to selected contacts, allowing them to carry out UPI transactions from the primary user’s account within a preset monthly limit. The solution aims to simplify shared financial responsibilities for households and small businesses while maintaining transparency and security.

The feature allows the primary account holder to authorise a secondary user to independently make digital payments without requiring separate approvals for each transaction. A spending cap of up to ₹15,000 per month and a validity period of up to five years can be configured. This creates a safe mechanism for dependents, family members, and support staff to manage routine expenses using digital payments, even if they do not have a UPI-linked bank account.

Lalitha Nataraj, MD & CEO, NBSL, said, “Full Delegation enhances UPI Circle from reactive approvals to proactive, trusted access within defined limits. It mirrors the way Indian families and small enterprises operate—built on trust, responsibility, and openness. With this, BHIM continues to advance digital inclusion by making payments simpler and more secure for everyone.”

Key Use Cases

  • Enabling Senior Citizens: Family members can provide secure payment access to elderly dependents, helping them adopt digital payments with confidence.
  • Controlled Access for Young Users: Parents can assign payment rights to children for everyday or academic expenses while keeping spending in check.
  • Support for Small Businesses: Owners can authorise staff to pay for routine operational costs—such as travel, tolls, or fuel—ensuring accountability without using cash.
  • Helping Digitally New Users: Working individuals can assist dependents unfamiliar with digital platforms by granting monitored access for daily expenditures.

UPI Circle is now accessible through the revised BHIM Payments App (Version 4.0.10), which also brings features such as Family Mode, Split Expenses, Spend Analytics, multilingual support, and an improved interface. With these additions, BHIM continues to position itself as an accessible, secure, and inclusive payments platform for the country.

How to Activate UPI Circle on BHIM

  1. Launch the BHIM Payments App and navigate to the UPI Circle option.
  2. Select “Invite to Circle” and enter the chosen contact’s mobile number.
  3. Add their UPI ID or scan their QR code.
  4. Choose “Approve a Monthly Limit (Full Delegation).”
  5. Specify the relationship category and verify the user using Aadhaar or other available documents.
  6. Set the monthly limit (maximum ₹15,000) and choose the desired validity period (1 month to 5 years).
  7. Select the bank account to be used and authenticate via UPI PIN.
  8. Once the recipient accepts and completion of a brief cooling period, delegated payments can begin immediately.
