Bharat Forge, through its Aerospace division, has signed an MoU with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) repair, overhaul, and indigenous development complex at Visakhapatnam.

Spread across nearly 80 acres within the Andhra Pradesh Defence Manufacturing Corridor, the facility will strengthen India’s naval propulsion capabilities and support the country’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. The agreement was signed during the Aerospace and Defence Investment Conclave at Puttaparthy in the presence of Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The complex, strategically located near the Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila, and Eastern Naval Command Headquarters, will bring critical marine propulsion sustainment capabilities into India’s private sector for the first time. Phase 1 includes a complete Marine GT repair and overhaul facility with hot section restoration, component manufacturing, NDE laboratories, and rapid turnaround capabilities. Phase 2 will focus on indigenous marine gas turbine development, assembly, and testing infrastructure.

Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman & Joint Managing Director, Bharat Forge, said, “This initiative marks a decisive step towards building indigenous marine propulsion capabilities and reducing dependence on overseas supply chains.”

The project is expected to create around 750 direct and indirect jobs while also serving as a regional hub for friendly foreign navies.
