The Commodity Markets Industry, with the support of MCX, will host the Global Commodity Conclave 2026 from August 12 to 14 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Built around the theme, ‘Convergence of Physical and Financial Markets‘, the conclave will bring together policymakers, global exchanges, institutional investors, corporates, SMEs, financial institutions and retail traders.
The event aims to strengthen India’s position in global commodity markets and promote the vision of “Price in India, Hedge in India”. Discussions will focus on how robust domestic derivative markets can support sectors such as agriculture, metals and energy, while helping businesses manage price volatility.
Commodity derivatives are increasingly emerging as an important investment avenue, offering protection against inflation and market uncertainties. Improved market infrastructure and growing participation from institutions and retail investors are further deepening the ecosystem.
Ajay Garg, Alternate President, Commodity & Capital Market Participants Association of India (CPAI), said, “India’s commodity markets are witnessing a powerful convergence of expanding retail participation and deeper institutional conviction, transforming them into inclusive engines of wealth creation.”
Surendra Mehta, National Secretary, India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), added, “India is evolving from a major gold consumer market into an investment market, with MCX positioned as a gateway for bullion financialisation.”
Highlighting the importance of hedging, Sushil Kothari, President, Bharat Metal Exchange (BME), said, “Price benchmarking and hedging are essential tools for MSMEs to sustain growth and improve profitability.”
Karan Dhaul, Director, Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI), noted that electricity derivatives will play a critical role in improving market efficiency and supporting India’s energy transition.
Praveena Rai, MD and CEO of MCX, said, “The conclave will create greater awareness about commodity markets, encourage wider adoption of hedging and promote commodities as a prudent investment avenue, contributing to a stronger economy and a Viksit Bharat.”
