Renault India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Renault Group, has introduced its Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 technology in India with the new Renault Duster, bringing electric-first driving and a claimed fuel efficiency of 29 km/l.
The hybrid powertrain combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery, delivering a maximum system output of 160 PS and peak motor torque of 208 Nm. The system enables up to 80% of city driving in pure electric mode, with claimed fuel savings of up to 29% compared with diesel.
The powertrain features a Formula 1-inspired multi-mode automatic gearbox with two electric and four petrol gears, offering 15 drive combinations. The battery recharges automatically while driving and during deceleration, eliminating the need for external charging. Additional features include B Mode regenerative braking and E-Save mode.
The Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 is available in Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants, priced at ₹16.99 lakh, ₹18.99 lakh and ₹19.49 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom). Features include an illuminated DUSTER grille logo, updated interior upholstery and, on the Emotion variant, ventilated front seats and six-way power adjustment.
Mr. Stéphane Deblaise, CEO, Renault Group India, said: “The Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 is a clear example of this approach.”
Mr. Francisco Hidalgo, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Renault Group India, said: “Starting at ₹16.99 lakh, right at the heart of this market, we believe it is the smarter choice for customers considering diesel, combining significantly lower fuel consumption with a quieter, smoother and more sophisticated driving experience, without requiring customers to change how or where they drive.”
Bookings are open at authorised Renault dealerships and through the company’s official website. Renault has also introduced Protect 360, an ownership programme starting at ₹89,900, offering insurance, maintenance and assured resale value.
