Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS) has partnered with Tata Motors to induct a fleet of electric airport passenger coaches, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable airport operations. The first two electric coaches were handed over at Tata Motors’ Lucknow facility, marking the beginning of a larger rollout across India.
As part of this initiative, AISATS has placed an order for 21 electric passenger coaches, which will be deployed across key airports in Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram. The initial vehicles will be stationed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. With an existing fleet of 37 electric coaches, this expansion further strengthens AISATS’ transition towards low-emission mobility solutions.
The phased rollout will see eight additional vehicles delivered by the end of April, with the remaining units scheduled over the coming months. The deployment aligns with AISATS’ broader sustainability roadmap, focused on reducing emissions and enhancing operational efficiency across airside and landside services.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Ramanathan Rajamani, CEO, AISATS, said, “Electrifying our transport fleet is central to our sustainability goals and supports India’s net zero ambitions. These electric passenger coaches will enable cleaner, quieter and more efficient passenger movement across our key airport locations.”
The collaboration brings together AISATS’ expertise in ground handling and Tata Motors’ leadership in electric commercial vehicles. Tata Motors has already deployed over 3,000 electric buses across India, contributing significantly to emission reduction.
Mr. Rajamani added, “This partnership reflects a shared commitment to building a greener aviation ecosystem. By integrating advanced electric mobility solutions, we aim to enhance passenger experience while driving long-term environmental impact.”
The new electric coaches are designed to offer improved comfort, accessibility and safety, while ensuring zero tailpipe emissions and reduced noise levels, supporting sustainable airport operations nationwide.
