DP World Cochin’s International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) recorded its highest monthly throughput of the year in May 2026, handling 77,637 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The achievement highlights the terminal’s growing importance as a trade and transshipment hub serving domestic and international cargo movements.
The strong performance was driven by increased transshipment activity, with the terminal handling a record 28,000 TEUs of transshipment cargo during the month. On a year-to-date basis through May 2026, overall volumes grew by 4% compared to the same period last year, despite continued geopolitical uncertainties affecting global trade.
Commenting on the achievement, Dipin Kayyath, Chief Executive Officer – Ports & Terminals, DP World Cochin, said, “This milestone reflects the trust our customers place in us and the commitment of our teams to deliver reliable and efficient services. The record throughput demonstrates our ability to manage higher cargo volumes while maintaining productivity, operational excellence and service reliability. We remain focused on strengthening our capabilities to support the evolving needs of global trade.”
During May, the terminal successfully handled an additional 17 vessel calls while ensuring smooth cargo movement and operational efficiency. To support growing demand, DP World Cochin has continued to invest in infrastructure upgrades, including enhancing power capacity from 3 MVA to 5 MVA and fully electrifying its yard equipment, improving both operational performance and sustainability.
Strategically located on key international shipping routes, DP World Cochin serves as an important gateway connecting Indian and global markets. The company’s Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) at Cochin further supports EXIM trade through efficient cargo storage, consolidation and distribution, strengthening Kerala’s position in India’s maritime and logistics ecosystem.
