India’s workforce is undergoing a significant shift, driven by optimism, rapid AI adoption, and evolving expectations around flexibility and collaboration, according to the Randstad Workmonitor 2026 India report.

The report highlights strong confidence across the ecosystem, with 100% of employers expressing optimism about business growth and 79% of professionals confident in their organizations’ future—well above global averages. However, rising living costs are reshaping workforce behaviour, with 58% of professionals considering or taking up a second job.

Artificial intelligence is emerging as a major productivity enabler, with 89% of Indian professionals acknowledging its positive impact. Despite this, human relationships remain central. Trust levels are high, with 89% of employees trusting leadership and 88% trusting colleagues.

Notably, 85% of Indian talent rely on cross-age collaboration to enhance performance, while 98% of employers view generational diversity as a key strength. At the same time, hybrid work is creating challenges, with 85% of employers reporting difficulties in collaboration.

Flexibility continues to be a decisive factor, as 58% of professionals would not accept roles lacking flexible work options, and 43% have left jobs due to limited autonomy.

Commenting on the findings, Viswanath PS, MD & CEO, Randstad India, said: “While India leads in AI optimism, the real productivity multiplier lies in human connections. Trust, collaboration, and multigenerational synergy are shaping a more autonomous workforce. Organizations that prioritize empathy, flexibility, and strong workplace relationships will be best positioned to succeed in this evolving landscape.”
